All right I know - there are dozens of message/chat programs out there, all with different gizmos but not everybody wants gizmos. What I want is secure, no frills and fast messaging/chat and that's what Secure Shuttle transport does. As I've said before "It does what it says on the tin". SST uses an automatic RSA encryption technique that encrypts your message before sending it. When recipients receive your message, SST automatically decrypts your communication, so that it can be read. The same goes for file transfers and chat. It's what I would describe as a no frills program, very functional and very very fast. With SST, you can chat, send instant messages and emails (or emails with file attachments) or complete real-time file transfers knowing that ALL your Internet communications are secure not like some of the big boys I could mention.

Encrypted file transfer is either direct using SST(Secure Shuttle Transport) or you can e-mail using SST and attaching the file which will be encrypted. If you want to encrypt your message as well just attach it as a text file. An e-mail notifier is also included in the program.

The user interface is skinnable and come with 5 different skins. The configuration is easy and different groups can be set up for say business and personal. Facilities are there to view a users info which, by the way, can be as little or as much as you like. One nice feature is the option to set incoming messages to pop up instead of the flashing tray icon, no chance of missing any messages until 10 minutes after they've been sent. The history facility is very good and very simple. Click on history for the user you want and up pops a window with a list of messages and all the details. Double click on a particular message in the list and it appears as it was originally sent, very nice, the simple things are always the best.

Chatting is via a split window and here lies the only niggle I have about this program and that is the font is too small with no option to change it but I am assured by Jason at Boomerang Software that is being changed and very soon. Talking of Jason, apart from the fact it is an excellent product, what did it for me was the enthusiastic support. I e-mailed a question and 20 minutes later the message screen popped up with the answer, that's service.

I for one am going to use this from now on, it's simple, it's fast, it's secure and it doesn't have all those bells and whistles that programs like ICQ have and never seem to get used. I urge you to try it.
