Axialis Media Browser
Type of Program: Media File Manager
Supported Platforms: Win 95/98/2000/NT
Company Name: Axialis Software
This is a useful piece of software, very useful indeed. That is what I expected when asked to review this having reviewed Axialis CD Player some time ago. The standard then was very high and is continued in Axialis Media Browser. Installation was simple and when you first run the program a window pops up telling you which media software is missing on your machine such as Real Player, Quicktime etc. and gives you direct links to download them.
Basically it's a browser for media files but absolutely feature rich and easy to use. The program supports over 50 media file formats including video, image, sound, movie, animations, HTML, DHTML, ASP, icons and cursors.
A very clear graphical interface with an explorer style file tree. You can search for any of the formats above either by folder, computer or even internet and specify either title, author or description. Files and folders can be added to a favourites list. All image files are displayed as thumbnails and can be viewed in various screen modes and movies can be previewed in the program.
I particularly liked the ability of the program to create slide shows of mixed formats and being able to view HTML files without the pain of having to wait for them to load into IE as Axialis Media Browser uses it's own viewer. There is also an acquire from scanner utility.
Another feature of this program is a powerful built-in librarian which lets you easily manage all your media files. This is a dockable window (which can be hidden) where you can store, move, copy and extract all the files you're using in your work (images, video, sounds and music).
Very easy to use: Double click to open a file in a window (even animations, music, video...), use Drag & Drop extract it, very useful for us web designers who want to transfer files in one go to the working directory. Yet another feature is the 'E-mail' facility. Simply right click the file and select 'Send as e-mail' and all you have to do is fill out the address and message then click 'Send' and the file/s are automatically attached. Multiple mailings can also be done by separating the addresses with a semi-colon.
Add to all this free upgrades for life and you have a high quality and extremely useful piece of software.
