Disk Space Recovery Wizard does just what the name implies: Reclaims wasted disk space on your boot drive. Or, as its advertising claims, "when programs access Windows system, they leave wasted binary and hex data lying around which eventually fills the hard disk more than should be. This problem is not corrected by any other software program other than Dr. Salman's Disk Space Recovery Wizard. The Wizard finds those areas of the hard disk which contain this garbage data, checks to see if no program is using it, compresses it, then safely deletes this data and recovers disk space."
Being the eternal skeptic, I downloaded, installed and ran the program. The user interface is very simple: Only two buttons, "calculate wasted disk space" and "recover wasted disk space". The program found 40 MB of wasted disk space on my boot drive. After recovery and reboot, I found that it had recovered 21 MB of space.
The downside of the program is that, because it's freeware, it's supported by advertising. The advertising is not within the program, but it attaches itself to the top and bottom bars of your default browser .... Very annoying, scrolling advertising banners. I cannot imagine anyone being able to tolerate this advertising for very long, so you'll want to either upgrade to the pro version (for $25 U.S.) or delete the software.
My verdict: The software does what it says to an acceptable degree (it recovered a little over half the disk space it determined was wasted), but at $25 U.S., it's overpriced. Give it a look and see what you think.
