Macromedia Dreamweaver 3 is to HTML Editors what Adobe PhotoShop is to graphics editors: The top of the line WYSIWYG ("what you see is what you get") editor.
Within Dreamweaver, you can either work visually (while viewing the webpage as the world will see it) or you can design from within the HTML. Creating hotspots, targets and links within the document window is easy with the image mapper. Creating framesets, adding dates, e-mail, navigation bars or media content from other Macromedia products (such as Flash, Shockwave and Generator) is accomplished with the "new objects" feature. You can even take HTML files created in Word into Dreamweaver and format them to your specifications.
Dreamweaver 3 also comes paired with other applications: With Allaire's HomeSite for PC users, BBEdit for Mac users. Or, for an extra $100 U.S., you can purchase the Dreamweaver 3 Fireworks 3 package, Fireworks being Macromedia's own graphics and animation program.
Macromedia's online help is very easy to navigate. If you're interested in becoming a professional web designer, Dreamweaver is for you.
The demo version of Dreamweaver is available from Macromedia's website and is functional for 30 days. Although it's pricey, my mother always told me that you get what you pay for. In this case, she was right. Dreamweaver is well worth the cost.
