Flaming Pear Software has been very busy lately! This is the latest addition to their family of intriguing and innovative graphic filters.
In Flaming Pear's own words: "Hue and Cry is a color noise generator. It creates areas of semi-random abstract color which are useful for making backgrounds or for reducing the uniformity of an illustration. You can also use the output of Hue and Cry as a picture base or as an element for textures and tiles for surfacing 3D models."
I downloaded and installed Hue and Cry into Adobe PhotoShop 6.0 (although it is compatible with several other graphics/image editors). I've included a screen shot, from Flaming Pear, so that you can see the user interface. The "Shape" pull down menu includes 6 options: Circles, diamonds, squares, octagons, TVs, fleurons, or points. The "Overlap" slider controls the size of the shapes. The "Softness" slider moves the crispness of the shapes' edges between crisp and soft. "Warping" deforms the shapes, and "Complexity" lets you add more shapes. "Zoom" makes your entire pattern larger or smaller. The second set of controls, the "color" controls, alter the colors in each shape and what colors appear where the shapes overlap.
Like all other Flaming Pear filters, Hue and Cry has the "dice" random control, except it has three of them!
Hue and Cry is a wonderful addition to the family, and one graphics addicts will be playing with for a good long time! The demo version is time limited; you'll be bringing out that credit card before it's over!
