Well, you can actually get good software for free! MonkeyZip is a good example.

MonkeyZip is a great zip utility. In addition to creating and extracting zip files, MonkeyZip lets you edit zip files, scan them for viruses, add comments, and test their integrity. You can also rename files within zip files, span multiple disks, add password protection, and create self-extracting archives. You can condense an entire folder of zip files into a single file and send the contents of open archives to your printer. MonkeyZip's other features include an integrated graphics/text viewer, a configurable favourites menu, logging support, and UUEncoding.

You cannot beat a deal like this anywhere. MonkeyZip's a true freeware gem!
