Many of you may already be familiar with the popular software application of "SnagIt" but did you know the creators of that fine app also have more software titles? If not, go back to their site and take a good look at this program; "CamtasiaT." What is it? It is a screen camcorder and video production tool all in one. In reviewing this program I must admit that I did take several months in looking this one over and as many of you know, I never just glance over any title just to be able to quickly write a review.

With CamtasiaT you can record all your screen activity as videos, and then go back to edit and narrate any of the clips. When you are satisfied with the production, publish it in standard formats. Is it easy to use? Well, if you can click a mouse you can use CamtasiaT to develop videos for your new software release, or use it to train users of existing software. In short you can use it to create any kind of active documentation. Capturing video is capable in several ways. By Screen, Region, Window, or a Fixed Region. I did find that capturing either a Window or Region rather than the entire Screen really improved performance. But, the nice thing about CamtasiaT is that you can capture many different Regions or Windows and edit and join them in the Producer to make an entire video presentation!

Editing is just as easy too. You can go back to any frame, using the Storyboard interface to assemble and add transitions to the AVI clips. Produce the final video to distribute as standard AVI files or as streaming presentations from a website.

CamtasiaT gives you many of the tools you need to record and produce desktop videos. So do keep this in mind, CamtasiaT produces desktop videos. Use it to capture all your screen shots and activity in real-time. Another great feature of this app is the fact that you can add annotations and watermarks to any of your recordings. Plus, it can act as a "live" software camera feed so you can broadcast the desktop in a live "webcast" using a streaming media encoder.

With Camtasia you actually get three programs in one: 1) CamtasiaT Recorder, 2) CamtasiaT Producer, and 3) Dub-It. Dub-It in itself is a really great program that I reviewed elsewhere on this site. I recommend that you go back to TechSmith's site and check these titles out for yourself.
