When it comes to Flash I'm one of those who can't be bothered to get into it. Too many things to remember , Timelines, keyframes, tweening, frames etc. etc. So when a program such as Mix-FX comes along I get all dewy eyed and excited at the same time. Quite simply this an astoundingly easy program to use which at the same time allows you to create some amazing text effects along with dazzling background effects. Future versions will have a facility to save your creations as a screensaver.

All you have to do is choose from one of the 20 text effects and 11 fonts along with one of the 26 background effects, alter the colours to your liking and adjust both background and text size by way of sliders, then sit back and admire the Flash you created. File sizes are really tiny, in the 1k to 5k range. There are three ways to save, straight SWF (direct into Flash), projector and "Publish to web" which gives you the SWF file plus the HTML needed to place it on your web page (please see the note on this at the bottom of the page). Text and background effects can be positioned using the guide buttons at the top and side of the screen and you can set the size of the whole effect by typing in the width and height in the movie settings box.

All in all an excellent program at the amazing price of $20.00 until July 1 2001. Well worth the money.

HTML Note:
By default Mix-FX creates a separate HTML file when using the "Publish to web" save option. In this file the background colour is placed in the body tag of the code which, of course makes the whole page that colour. You need to paste the background colour ie bgcolor="#52B5EE" into the code between the Object tags just before the width="---" section. This will ensure only your text effect has that background colour.
