I've tried various email notifiers before which at the time were
the bees knees in their field but there was always something vaguely intrusive
about them. Not so with MailWasher, this is an absolute gem.
Ok it does what all the others do, read and delete email without downloading
from the server, check multiple email accounts at preset time intervals
including Hotmail and MSN Hotmail, import existing email accounts, sits in the
tray unobtrusively etc etc. Where MailWasher scores over the others is it's
excellent "Bounce Back" feature. Now you have the opportunity to do something
about that wretched spam. Put quite simply you can view and read your email on
the server, decide which is spam, mark it for "Bounce" and click on "Process
mail". The sender of spam will get a bounce back email so that it looks as
though your address is not valid and should get your email address removed from
their list and get their senders details put on the blacklist for easy removal
if they come back. You can even set it to automatically bounce and delete
blacklisted e-mails, or whole domains off the server. Plus, MailWasher can use
external blacklists such as ORDB, Spam Cop, VISI or you can specify your own.
Clicking on "Process mail" also starts your usual email client so you can
download only the genuine emails.
I have already significantly reduced the amount of spam I receive by using
MailWasher. To quote the makers "MailWasher can be thought of as a "first line
of defense" which can weed out junk, large wasteful attachments, and potentially
harmful viruses."
This is a "must have" in your armory against spam.
