Well the first thing I noticed in the installation was the
different languages it supports i.e. Norwegian, English, Dutch, Spanish, German,
French and Swedish. Just Amazing! The rest of the install was uneventful as it
should be.
The first thing you see upon starting the program is a nag screen advising you
of the date your 10 day shareware edition will expire. You get one each time you
start the program.
Ok hears the deal. This game is all about the 1967 American League season (Which
is why I had trouble finding a game the Cubs played in). So you can play any of
the 810 games played that season. Listen for $25 this is really a deal for the
baseball fanatic. You can relive this season.
This is from their web page:
Making lineup changes is your primary role in this game. The first players you
usually replace are the pitchers. Pitchers tire. Some guys can pitch forever.
Some weaken at about five innings. To replace a pitcher you simply mouse click
his name. You are then prompted to select pitcher from a detailed list.
Naturally you wouldn't select the closer in the fifth inning as he will would
probably burn out after two innings. Pinch hitters are chosen by clicking the
batter, pinch runners by clicking the runner. You can't make runners steal or
elect to go for the extra base but base running is built into the game. For
example a runner goes to third on a single to left only 33% of the time but when
you match a strong armed outfielder with a slow runner this percentage is
changed. As you play the game you will appreciate the heavy statistical base the
game is built on. So when you put in a pinch runner or replace your weak armed
fielder with one with a powerful arm and who makes less errors it means
something. Again the philosophy of this game is realism and statistical accuracy
that many games lack.
The game uses statistics from
www.retrosheet.org. These play by play statistics provide for proper left
right performance from pitchers or batters.
So as you can see your role is as the manager of the team. There are neat sound
effects in the game and statistics galore. And of course it keeps track with the
stats the standings of the teams and games you played. Just think you can trade
a couple of players make some substitutions and effect history! Just kidding.
In conclusion if you know nothing about baseball you are in for a learning
curve. If you are into baseball then the game will really impress you and give
you years of delight for a really great price.
