Installed Size:
Well during the install I was given the 3 choices:
How shall the service be accessed
1.As Snap-In in the Microsoft Management Console
2.As a standalone program
3.With a command-line interface
I choose the default number 1 for no particular reason other than it was the
default.
Then I got this one:
Would you like to setup O&O Defrag Professional Edition as standard
defragmentation tool?
This setting also affects users, who may not execute the program.
Yes
No
Default was No, so I took that.
Then I got to the program. First thing you get is a screen asking you to put in
your registration code. Or take the choice to try it out for 30 days. You get
this nag screen every time you open the program.
This program points out some things that I never realized. It informs us that
there are different methods of defraging. This program has these methods of
defraging:
Stealth
Space
Complete/Access
Complete/Date
Complete/Name
I'm not going to go into the details of each one. But here is my experience with
this program. I tried first the Complete/Name method. Here is what they say
about this:
COMPLETE/Name
The COMPLETE/Name method defragments your files and reorganizes your file
structure. Although this method is slower than the STEALTH and the SPACE method,
it ensures optimum system performance during file access.
The COMPLETE/Name method is very well suited for system drives. Please consider,
that these methods need more memory due to reorganization of the files. If it is
a critical point for your system, we recommend the STEALTH method.
Okay, here is the part that is hard to swallow. On one of my drives a 30gb drive
it said that it would take more than 2 DAYS to defrag it!! So I emailed the
company and asked if this was normal. I waited 4 days for a response then
emailed again. They then responded within a day and said that yes that was a
possibility if I had a lot of files. So I fired back some more questions and
gave them some information about my system for them to be able to tell me if
this was the norm. Many days later I am still awaiting a response.
So I did try on that drive at night to do the Complete/Name defrag. Guess what?
Doing this at nights it took a week to defrag this drive.
I don't know about you but in my mind this isn't hacking it.
The good news is that it will defrag all your drives at the same time. The other
good news is that the interface is really cool looking.
In conclusion. You may like this program. I didn't. The support sucked and the
amount of time it took to defrag really wasn't acceptable.
