EasyWord, extracted from EasyOffice 2001, is a good word
processing program. It opens MS Word documents, as well as RTF, and plain text.
It can even view hypertext pages. Good thesaurus and spell check. Does well with
headers, footnotes, and end notes, not something you see with every RTF word
processor. Support for tables and graphics. MDI, Multiple Document Interface
with 'documents open' strip just above the status bar. Tinyeasyword.exe, the 6.2
meg install file, makes for a much faster download than a full office suite.
Several features, such as a dictionary, mail merge, export to PDF, fax, and
speech are not available in the free version. The interface is a little too busy
for my liking, buttons everywhere, including on the side. Fortunately, you can
reduce the number (and size) of buttons by going to advanced mode. Non-standard
buttons and menu can be confusing. Ctrl+S produces "save as" instead of "save."
Problems with hyphenation and flickering. Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher *MUST*
be installed for EasyWord to work.
Nagware. Bait for full version of EasyOffice 2001.
