This is a jigsaw program that has many faces. In fact there are four different editions. These are: - the Free, the Standard, the Master and the Professional Editions. The one being reviewed here is the Free Edition.

This Jigsaw puzzle is not like other Jigsaw programs. It has one feature that others do not, it can handle animated puzzles and can turn avi files into jigsaws. This means that as well as the normal jigsaw puzzles, you can do a puzzle made from a movie or a video clip. Of course if doing a jigsaw where the pieces aren't static makes it too difficult, there is an option to pause the movie until you have completed the puzzle.

The Free Edition allows you to complete puzzles between 9 and 160 pieces. To make it harder, it is possible to have the pieces rotated so it is more realistic. The interface of the free edition makes it so easy to use that my seven-year-old daughter can use it without my help. In fact, this free edition of Alive! Jigsaw is one of her favourite programs on the computer.

Too good to be true? Not really, there are some drawbacks. The interface is set at 800x600 and can't be changed for those with a higher resolution screen. Also, the help screen has yellow writing on a blue background and can be very hard to read. Although the program doesn't come with many puzzles, the home page contains many puzzles and pictures available for download. (The program stores itself in the windows application data folder).
