Kayak Extreme is a very interesting program. It simulates racing
a kayak downstream and, to a complete novice in this challenging sport, does it
well.
The graphics are as close to real as it is possible to get and almost boggles
the mind, especially if you try to work out how many hours the game designer
took in getting the water to look right. Unfortunately, games are not judged on
graphics alone and other things must be taken into consideration, such as game
play.
The game comes with a manual that MUST be read before play is started as
it explains the controls and how to play the game. The manual also has a good
support section with a basic troubleshooting faq page and a page that explains
the license details (21 day demo period).
The controls in the game can be very hard to get used to as it involves holding
both left and right arrows together to go straight, holding down the right arrow
to go left and the left arrow to go right. That said the graphics make it worth
the effort in learning the controls.
One major complaint though, the version that I downloaded was limited to one
kayak, paddle style and location. The realism of the game also makes it into a
big download (22M), which can put people off what is a very good game, but IT
IS WORTH THE TIME spent on the download.
