The installation of Port Explorer is easy and intuitive. Not
only are you allowed to put the program files where you want them you also are
asked if you want a desktop icon and a Quick Launch icon. And there is a
language selection. The program is available in English, Dutch, French and
German. After the install you have to reboot.
With the shareware version you are allowed 30 days or 50 executions. More than
enough for you to evaluate the program. However this part is also true:
Many advanced functions are not included in this evaluation, they are available
to registered users only.
Here are some of the questions that Port Explorer can answer:
... who or what is connected to your computer?
... which process is using a particular port?
... if any of your personal data is being sent out to the Internet?
... if any programs on your computer are listening, waiting for somebody to
connect?
... which programs on your computer are running as invisible servers (possibly
trojans)?
... which programs on your computer transmit information to the Internet without
you knowing?
Well someone has finally done it. It was about time too. DiamondCS has made
DiamondCS Port Explorer into a network monitoring tool that is easy to use and
configure. Plus at a reasonable price too. Hey just download and run it you will
really surprised. The interface is really easy to understand. A problem with
most of this type of program. This doesn't mean that isn't a sophisticated
program. It is. You get all the information about what is happening in real time
with your network ports.
And that isn't all. There is a ping utility, Whois, Traceroute and Resolve.
There is much much more to this program.
In conclusion. This is the best Network Utility we have seen. And it is priced
right.
