PassCrypt

Type of Program: Password manager
Supported Platforms: Windows 95/98/Me/NT4/2000/XP
Company Name: Permutations Software
Version: 1.2
Price: $14.95
Installed Size: 2.3 Mb
The first thing that tells you that this is quality software is
the install. During the install you get these options: Create a desktop icon,
Create a Quick Launch icon and Associate password files (*.PC) with PassCrypt.
Lots of software these days will just assume that they know best and put icons
everywhere and associate itself with everything too. In other words no respect
for the user. Of course PassCrypt lets you install the program files in the
location you want.
The downloaded software is fully featured software. You can try it out for 21
days.
When you first start the program it goes through a sort of setup wizard
(screenshot).
One of the ways that you find out if software is any good is what the default
setup looks like. Is it easy to understand? More importantly does it fit your
needs? PassCrypt passes that test with flying colors. The installation defaults
are folders for Banking, Internet, Software and Email. Everything you were
looking for, right?
PassCrypt though does not limit you to the defaults. You can set up PassCrypt in
many ways, plus add more folders.
How secure is your information? If you use the optional password protection,
your data is encrypted using a military-strength (448-bit) Blowfish cipher.
Another useful thing that PassCrypt will do is generate randow passwords. I like
that too.
In conclusion PassCrypt is just what the doctor ordered for keeping your
sensitive information away from prying eyes. So go download it. I'm sure that
you will pay for it well before the 21 day trial period is over.
