Type of Program: Text-to-voice generator
Supported Platforms: Windows 98/Me/2000/XP/2003
Company: Qwerty Studios
Installed size: 920kb
Speaking Notepad functions like most other text-to-voice
programs that are currently available, that is to say; it lacks audio clarity.
Don't look for any personality from the generated voices. They may have names
like: Sandra, Wendy, Grandma, ect.. but they are still mechanical voices with
the annoying habit of mispronouncing everyday words.
While the program is easy to use it sometimes refuses to respond if a large text
file is open to the Notepad. Besides the program itself, two additional drivers
must be downloaded for the voice generators to operate correctly. If connected
to the internet the installation process will locate the proper drivers and load
them automatically. This adds just over 900kb to the Installed size of the
program and requires reconfiguration of some firewalls.
The program is still generations away from reading the kids to sleep at night,
but for those with visual impairments it would probably be a helpful utility.
