The installation of Dup Detector is sort of easy and intuitive.
You can place the program files where you want them, but not easily. You have to
enter the path manually, you cannot browse to it.
The program is not exactly intuitive. But a few minutes in the Help file will
set you straight.
I put Dup Detector to work on my My Pictures folder. It said that it was
comparing 2536 images. After a bit less than 15 minutes it said "Finished 2536
images analyzed. Ready to find dupes." So I went to the next Tab
I picked the Default, pushed the Find dups button and in a few seconds it came
up with "Finished: 1000 matching pairs from 2536 image files. ready to view
Dups.log. So I went to the View dups Tab. The first twenty or so matches were
spot on, but then some really low light images showed up that were not dupes.
Then a couple hundred more real dupes then some low light non-matches. This was
repeated a couple of times.
But would you believe it, in less that another half hour I had cleaned out My
Pictures of all the obvious dupes. There were about 300 dupes, a whole bunch of
wasted disk space. I can't even imagine how much time that would have taken me
to do by eyeball. Obviously too long, since I have been putting of doing it for
