Get ready for the one of the best underwater
simulation adventures of your life! Picture this -
The Earth has become so polluted that the remaining population
have been forced to build
massive `aqua-cities', under the ocean. `Aqua-cities' like Svesda
Vostok, Capital of the
Shogunate empire. You are the commander of a submersible craft
equipped with, 26th century,
state-of-the-art, `smartweapons'. You have been recruited by the
local Politik to rescue a 500
metre long mineral transporter from the clutches of the `Mogh'
mercenaries. But, to get to the
transporter you must first destroy any `mogh' submersible
gunships, then you must blast your
way through a magnetic, floating mine-field. All the while trying
to avoid those deadly
underwater currents! And, please don't screw up. Because the
minerals on board that transporter
are very valuable and crucial for the survival of the people of
Svesda Vostok.
You will quickly be drawn into this visually stunning 3D
environment. There are many rooms,
and cities to visit, and underwater features like, canyons,
valleys, and trenches to explore.
And, thankfully, Bluebyte have put a lot of effort into producing
realistic sounds and
background effects. The sort of soundscape you would imagine in
such a strange world. The
graphics alone make this game worth returning to, but without the
`atmosphere' created by the
background soundscape it would be a lot harder for the mind to
truly believe what it is
experiencing.
`Archimedean Dynasty' has been designed using `artificial
intelligence'. This means that a
particular sequence of events that occur in one mission will have
changed during subsequent
playing of the same mission. This includes the questions you ask,
and the order in which you
ask them. Visiting different rooms in the aqua-city complex, in
reverse order, will also have a
similar effect.
The game reviewed here, internet shareware v1.115, has been
designed to run _only_ on
computers with 16 megabytes of RAM. The minimum CPU speed is a
DX4-100. The retail version will need a Pentium 90 with 8mb RAM
and 2mb of VRAM is necessary for the graphics. While the
shareware version of `Archimedean Dynasty' only provides 4
missions, limited to 14 minutes per mission, the retail version
provides 60 underwater stations, 130 rooms with sound and dialog,
and many unique characters to question. Plus there are dozens of
other interesting features
which you will just have to discover for yourself. Enjoy!
