In a reprise of that old standby, Battleships, BattleStar is a search-and-destroy mission for enemy ships. The game board is a 9x9x9 grid of a 3-D galaxy consisting of 927 sectors, 60 of them containing hidden warships you must destroy before they can establish bases in the galaxy.

Each of the three levels of difficulty allocates the number of missiles and amount of fuel you'll have to wipe out the invaders. The scanner keeps track of how many enemy ships are hidden in your current sector and calculates your hit rate. Simple as this game is, you'll find yourself playing (ahem) longer than you'd intended, mainly because the 3-D grid is much more cussed than you initially expect.

A pretty good Help file is added to the shareware version 2.5, although it's doubtful you need it. The freeware version is scaled down, but just as entertaining. Take your pick. It's much more interesting than Minesweeper.

The freeware version 1.4 is completely functional and yours to keep. The shareware version 2.5 has a 30-day evaluation period and is completely functional, without any nag reminders. So, in the shareware spirit, you're on your honor to register version 2.5 by sending your $20 (check or money order in U.S. funds) to: Gregory Braun, P.O. Box 1307, Milwaukee, WI 53201-1307 USA. (International postal orders must be in U.S. funds.) Registered users will receive regular update notices and email support.
