Canasta is a strategy type card game. The goal of Canasta is to win by melding cards and by making canastas. A Canasta is a column of seven cards of the same rank (e.g. Aces, Jacks, sixes, etc...)
It will allow you to play against the computer or you can play over the Internet, although this is a little more complicated to set up. One thing you must keep in mind, once the program has been set up to run online, theres no more complicated things to encounter! There are special instructions on the homepage, as to how to get this program going over the Internet. I do know you must download and register another program before you can play via the Internet. Its my understanding that the other program is free of charge for now. The other program is not included in the installed size, that program is additional.
In the shareware version of Canasta, you have full functionality and no time-out limit. This means you can continue to play the game after so many days but there are only 25 different hands that can played randomly. Theyll keep repeating, over and over!
Canasta features three skill levels, they are Beginner, Advanced and Expert. The rules are fully customizable, in addition to unlimited undo features. There are full instructions included in the help menu.
The options menu includes the following things: card backs, background color, status bar, messages and more. You can change the size from 640 x480 to 800 x600 and even higher if your video card supports it, but you must already be in the higher mode for this option to work.
In Canasta you can change the sound files and the music files. You can even set up a jukebox folder with your favorite music to play, this is really a neat option. Or, you can turn sound or music off!
Under the Network folder, is the setup for connecting on the Internet. It requires your name, e-mail address, your user name and your password. Also, it needs information concerning your Internet Provider, i.e. SMTP/POP3 server information.
