What do you do when, to download a file, you face a great number of sites
and have to choose the fastest? Usually, one makes such choice thinking about the local
time, the distance from own country, the amount of traffic toward that specific site, and
so on. Now, use Dipstick. This program, small, freeware and excellent (the essence of
shareware programming, but I should be also happy to pay for programs like this), is able
to time every site you give it, and to tell you which is faster for downloading. All you
have to do is to drag and drop as many as URLs you want into the Dipstick's window, and
wait for it to ping every address. In few time Dipstick will compute the minimum, average,
and maximum Round Trip Time (the less, the better), and the rate of the requests gone lost
in the cyberspace (same as above). Eventually, the results will be displayed in another
window, where you will be able to organize them in crescent order by means a simple mouse
click. Moreover, if you want, Dipstick will give you the name of the fastest URL, based
upon the average Round Trip Time. The program offers you many options, ranging from the
number of echoes to send to their length, for example, and many others. What can I say
more? Nothing but that Dipstick is really great.
