Object oriented programming for Windows 95 and
Windows NT 3.51 is now within the grasp of anyone who can follow
simple directions. The Envelop Engine Rapid Application
Development environment puts Windows 32 bit programming on a very
affordable and easy to use level.
Based on the concept that the software pirates have won, so why
fight them, the Envelop Engine is being released as a freeware
product. Unlike most freeware products, Envelop Engine is backed
by a full support team and is under continual refinement.
The system has well written, very detailed help files. With the
included tutorial guiding the way, a beginning programmer can
complete a first project in less than ten minutes.
Don't let the user friendly environment fool you though. This is
a serious development tool. The Envelop Engine features all of
the object oriented programming features of the compiled
languages. The system also provides excellent introduction of OLE
and OCX controls. It was designed to give Microsoft's Visual
Basic a run for it's money. In most respects, I think Envelop
won.
The one drawback of the Envelop Engine is load time speed. It has
none. The full body of the Envelop Engine is nearly 20 megs, and
the run time module for programs developed under the Envelop
Engine consists of roughly 5 megs of DLL files. These are not
light fast programs. Ease of use does have it's price.
Version 1.3 of the Envelop Engine includes an Application
Installation Wizard that makes it much easier to extract the
needed run time modules for distribution of your projects. This
is a new feature of the latest version.
Since loading speed is a downfall of most program language
interpreters, and large size is common in Windows 95 programs, I
give the Envelop Engine high marks the whole way down the line.
