If you like playing Mahjongg you will like Mah
Jongg Wall. You still remove the tiles by matching pairs but as
you remove them they build the Mah Jongg Wall. When the wall only
needs one tile you have to match the joker tile with the dead
tile. The game starts off with rolling the dice to determine the
prevailing wind. If the wind is east or west then you match the
tile pairs in the way you are used to but if the wind is North or
South then you remove the tiles that are open at the bottom or
the top of the tile. The final roll determines the dead tile and
the loose tiles. The dead tile is removed and replaced by a joker
tile. The loose tiles are shuffled and stacked in the middle of
the wall. The rest of the tiles are shuffled and stacked in the
usual Mahjongg fashion called the Mountain. There are 8 season
tiles shuffled and placed in the mountain along with the other
tiles 2 each of Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. The season
tiles are replaced with the loose tiles. You replace them by
clicking on the season (the first season doesn't matter but after
the first you have to follow the normal order of the seasons) and
clicking on the loose tile you want to replace it with. The loose
tiles are stacked in 2 rows of 4 each and are face up with the
top tiles visible until the joker tile is revealed then they are
turned face down. If that isn't enough there are some special
moves you can also do during the game. You are allowed three
special moves per game but not using any of them and still
winning is called a perfect game. One special move is changing
the prevailing wind by clicking on a face up wind tile in the
wall providing it isn't already the prevailing wind like clicking
a South Wind tile when the prevailing wind is East (remember this
changes how you remove the tiles). Another special move is
restacking (moving) a tile in the mountain. If the tile you want
to move (it must be a free tile) is face up in the wall click on
the tile you want to move and it's match in the wall. It will
then ask you in which direction you want to move it. When you do
a special move it may leave a hole in the wall which you must
replace with the next pair you match or loose end if you don't
have a matching pair available. If you mend it by matching a pair
of dragon tiles then you earn a pardon. Earning a pardon let's
you make one mistake when trying to guess the dead tile which
means you can click the joker tile and a tile in the mountain if
that is the wrong choice the game isn't over you can select the
joker and another tile (if that one is wrong too then the game is
over). The game also has the options like showing possible
matches and reshuffling the mountain tiles which makes the game a
casual game then. When you run out of moves but still haven't won
the game you can also forfeit and look at the tiles or start the
game over. Of course it also has undo last move, set undo mark,
and go back to undo mark options.
All in all it is an easy game to play but difficult to win until
you develop some strategies (some which are listed in the help)
then it becomes easier but not easy to win. The shareware version
gives you a 30 day evaluation. Registering the program gets rid
of the nag screens, free upgrades, free email support, the
ability to change options such as if you want to see the dice
rolling, if you the program to start a new game whenever you
start the program, if you want to be warned if you are changing
to casual play, the able to open saved Official games in Official
instead of casual mode, whether you want to see a fortune cookie
on exit (fortune cookies replace the closing nag screen, if you
want a "No More Moves" notice, you also get more
playing mats (background graphic), over 200 proverbs from Master
Chen Hai Yang (that you can see if you win). There are several
ways to register this program which are all described in the help
file and on the web page.
