Populist is a clipboard utility that lives in
your system tray. It allows you to input up to a hundred
different short text entries that you can then access quickly and
easily from your system tray to copy/paste the information into
other applications. If you find yourself repeatedly typing in the
same information into forms on the Internet or other places, this
application will make your job much easier, once you've set it up
with the information.
The program allows you to group the entries together into
subcategories for easier access. Each entry is limited to 100
characters. Because the data is accessible from your system tray,
all it takes is a simple click or two to copy and paste the
selected information.
The installation was a little awkward, but once installed, the
program performed flawlessly. I set up separate subcategories for
email addresses, URLs, Company Information (address, telephone,
contacts), Product Information and Marketing Blurbs (tag lines).
The 100 character limitation reared its ugly head when I tried to
include short product descriptions in the program, but other than
that I found the program to be fully functional and very useful
in providing shortcuts to filling in forms on the Internet - a
welcome alternative to manual data input.
The program is freeware. If you like it, email the author at mailto:magma@dircon.co.uk.
