WordMagic has many of the standard word processing features of comparable
programs, with considerably less bulk and faster loading time. Its toolbar layout is
reminiscent of Microsoft's Wordpad, with a few extra buttons for features such as
print-preview, format setup, and header/footer setup.
Its strong points are its print preview and format selection features. There are 14
"canned" formats to choose from, to cover most paper, card and envelope sizes
you'd ever need. The print previewer gives you a very accurate presentation of how you
final document will look.
WordMagic offers font and color selection, and button-presets for left- justify,
right-justify, text centering, and bullet-point list creation. Its header/footer functions
(notably the preview and entry portions) were quirky in operation, however, and didn't
behave reliably. Sometimes I got headers/footers, sometimes I could preview them --
sometimes not. The Help button was non-functional -- and perhaps you might not care with a
program this simple. But indeed, Help is not there, and it turns out that no help files
exist in the program folder. Also, the Toolbar configuration feature did not allow
addition of feature buttons that actually operated, so the existing toolbars will have to
do. Maybe these items will be corrected in the next rev.
WordMagic saves files in RTF format, which you can also read using Wordpad. It allows you
to send files as attachments to your MAPI email (e.g., Windows Messaging).
I found that creation of professional looking documents and envelopes was quick and easy,
making WordMagic a handy alternative word processor for quick jobs. And it's free.
