Have you ever wondered if your PC is year 2000 compliant? Surely you have heard the catastrophic forecasts about the biggest screwing up in the history of personal computer when the BIOS clock will turn on January, 1st 2000. This isn't quite true, however why don't you perform a test to make sure if your computer is able to manage the 21st century? YMark2000, a free program from NSTL, a division of McGraw-Hill, tests your PC's BIOS and real-time clock ability to support the year 2000. It performs three tests. First ,it verifies that the clock is a Motorola MC 146818 compatible chip. This because OSes like UNIX, for example, access the clock directly, not through the BIOS; if the chip is not compatible, such OSes may fail. Second, it verifies real-time progression from December 31st, 1999 to January 1st, 2000. If it fails, it checks the ability to set the date manually. Third and last, it verifies the support of the 2000 leap year. The meaning of every test performed, a Q&A list and some advice about what to do if the PC is not year 2000 compliant, all of this is clearly displayed in the .txt file which comes with the program. A very helpful program, which in few seconds tells you if your computer is ready for the 21st century.
