This nimble little URL minder just keeps getting better, but not bigger or
slower. URLMenu 98 is very fast-working URL organizer that keeps your burgeoning list of
bookmarks and favorites under control. Added to this version is Windows 98 support, and a
cool "Quick Search" feature so you can activate your selected search engine from
inside the program. (If you want to see more engines added, just contact the author.)
URLMenu 98 works sensibly, right out of the system tray, and has a set of options so
practical, you sense the author actually uses his own program. It supports both Netscape
and Internet Explorer browsers, so URLMenu 98 launches whichever you select, which is very
nice if you use both.
Organizing Netscape Bookmarks or Internet Explorer Favorites is quick--just click on the
tray icon, and your folders and URLs pop up, and you need only click to launch the URL or
command. Copy URLs directly in URLMenu 98 from your clipboard, and a Find function locates
(via keyword) those URLs buried in folders you may have forgotten about.
URLMenu 98 keeps your URLs fresh too, with a very slick Link Checker Wizard that locates
the dead and unavailable ones on the Web, for your selected action. And from within the
program, you can edit, export URLs, locate a specific search engine, access Favorites, and
get a list of recently visited sites. If you have as many Favorites as I do, you'll find
that URLMenu 98 offers absolutely the fastest way to access them --and to get rid of the
deadwood. This little app is a gem. And of all the nicely featured URL minders out there,
this is the one I use use on a daily basis.
And believe it or not, it's still free. You can download the full version (size given
above). Or if you already have the Visual C++ runtime DLL (msvcrt40.dll) in your system
directory, you can download the smaller 88K file, Dynamic Linked URLMenu, from the product
website. The author invites comments and suggestions by email: Paul Dixon pauld@ilp.com
