PaneKiller sits in your system tray and gives you easy, configurable,
menu-like access to every document and application available on your computer. You access
the menus by left clicking on the PaneKiller icon in the system tray. You can customize
PaneKiller to suit your needs by right clicking on the icon in the system tray and
choosing what you want to do. One item in PaneKiller's initial menu is desktop from which
you can access every drive, folder (directory), and file on your computer. You can
customize the main menu though so you don't have to reach the stuff you use most that way.
If you don't want to customize that is okay because PaneKiller made it easy for you by
automatically placing a shortcut the last 10 items you worked with into Recent Items and
the folders (directories) in Recent Folders. Another feature is the ability to right click
on any item and get the same context menu you would get by right clicking on it in
Explorer.
PaneKiller properties lets you customize PaneKiller to suit your needs. Under the advanced
tabs you can choose to Hide Icons on Windows desktop, choose shortcut key to display menu,
Clear Recent items/folders, Enable cache for fast menu display, Always rebuild desktop
menu, Always rebuild My Computer menu, Clear all menu caches now, Cache network shares,
and cache all menus. Under the Taskbar tab you can choose to show in application area of
taskbar, single click mode, which icon you want in the taskbar. Under the menu tab you can
choose to have recent folders, recent items, start menu, control panel, printers, my
computer, my document, favorites, panekiller about and properties in all menus, and split
long menus into multiple pages on the main menu. The Sort Order tab lets you customize the
sort order. The Appearance tab will let you show icons in menu, use large icon, fetch
icons in background, menu arrival effect (26 choices), menu appearance delay setting, show
hidden or system files, gradient backgrounds, menus have a title area, and disable splash
screen.
This program is easy to use and install for the novice user with a clear help file so they
can learn how to use the advanced features. It is so customizable that a power user will
love it. My favorite part is the ability to split large menus into smaller ones. It has a
30 day free trial so you can check it out for yourself.
