Clone Invaders is a clone of the classic Atari and arcade game Space
Invaders. The object of the game is to move your "tank" back and forth shooting
at incoming aliens. In this dos arcade game, you get three lives to get the job done, and
if you blow three lives, you get the even more classic GAME OVER screen.
The performance was a bit tricky, but once I understood the speed command, the playability
of the game was much better. To explain all this for you, if the game moves too fast
(which it will do on a Pentium computer) you will have to use the "-s" switch
when you run the game. When you normally run the game, the default speed is between 5000
and 6000. If it runs WAY to fast on your system then run the program like this.
cloninv.exe -s 3000 This will slow down the game enough so that it is playable on a
Pentium. (The programmer of this game was a genius to include this feature)
The sound is from the PC speaker, so its nothing special, but I actually liked the PC
Speaker sounds because it gave the game that Arcade Style look along with customizable
graphics that can be between CGA and VGA.
I recommend this game to all arcade fans, as long as you know how to use the -s switch,
because if you don't, you will not enjoy playing Clone Invaders as much. Overall, Clone
Invaders has a lot to offer to Atari fans. It has pretty much the same graphics, but of
course, nothing will ever come close to the sounds and graphics of a good old fashioned
Atari game.
