Hex Mines is a twist on the popular Windows game Minesweeper. Instead of
the square sectors, these are hexagonal. There are still 6 border areas to the sectors,
just as in Minesweeper, but Hex Mines seems to be easier to catch on to, and is very
playable. The one thing that gave me trouble when I first started playing Minesweeper was
keeping an eye on the borders of any particular area, this game solves that problem. This
game features choice of skill levels and pretty much the same options too, but a slightly
different feel and look.
To anyone not familiar with Minesweeper, here is how Hex Mines works. You have a box full
of hexagons, behind them will either be a number, or a mine. The number indicates how many
mines border that area. The trick is to avoid all the mines, using the information from
the numbers, and clear the screen so that only the mines are left. Sound difficult? Try
playing on the Expert level with 84 mines hidden somewhere in a field of 420 sectors.
Luckily, you can begin on the Beginner level, with only 20 mines in a 100 sector area, or
even create your own with the Custom feature.
If you are a Minesweeper addict and want a different way to kill time at work ( not that
you'd waste time at work, oh no... :-) ) then you might want to try this game on for size.
Its full version shareware, all the author asks is a $10 donation if you like it, so why
not give it a try?
