Directory-2-HTML is designed to generate a listing of any filetype you
specify from any directory (folder) on your drive -- and then it creates a web-ready HTML
page, complete with hyperlinks. Yippee! This is great if your web site lists lots of
images, sounds, or other files you make available for your visitors to download.
Directory-2-HTML is handy, too, if you just want to generate a nice summary of all files
in your directory, by filetype. (For example, you could select DOC or TXT to get a listing
of all such files in the folder/directory.) Does this cool tool ever save you a whole lot
of keyboard time!
For web authors, some of the important features are customizable title, header, footer,
and mailto, plus some META tag support. The program also has the ability to add a shell
extension to the right click menu of folders, making it easy to create HTML pages while
you're browsing via Windows explorer. Directory-2-HTML also can be minimized to the system
tray for on-the-fly access. There are numerous options to make this program generate the
kinds of files you want, including a directory picker that lets your hyperlinks reflect
local or server file-paths. You can make things easy by choosing the "basic"
operating mode (and let the program do all the work), or the "advanced" mode
when you want to direct or modify the HTML output parameters. Whichever.
Directory-2-HTML is one of those great little freeware tools that you soon know you'd
gladly pay for. The author continually upgrades the program in response to user comments,
and there's a good FAQ at the product website. Definitely, check it out.
