Win-Stitch is a program to generate charts for counted cross stitch. Scan
a picture of what you would like to do a cross-stitch project of. In seconds you have
everything charted into grids, showing the colors and number of stitches needed for each
area.
One option available is changing the number of colors you want to use in your chart. Too
few colors loose some definition, you have to play with this function to come up with what
you feel is enough color to produce a satisfactory image. The more colors you choose the
more thread you have to buy. In most case I changed the number of colors to between 30 and
50, which seem to produce a usable chart.
There is a cross reference for different brand names of embroidery cotton, enabling you to
go to the store armed with color numbers. After the chart is produced, you can change the
colors in the chart by choosing a color from a pallet and "painting" one square
of the grid, the painting will change all that color to the new choice. The charts can be
printed with or without symbols to identify the colors. Multi pages are printed which have
to be taped together.
I had trouble scanning into the program, for some reason it would access my scanner,
preview but would not scan, I worked around this by copy and paste. I checked the FAQ on
the page and noticed that others had the same problem, but the question seem to remain
unanswered.
The program is easy to use, with many features that I did not get totally into. You would
have to make a chart and do it before you could tell 100% as to just how well the charts
work. This would take a little more time then the 14-day trial period.
The program is well worth investigating for serious cross stitchers.
