This program starts out by 'washing' or cleaning and emptying the history file of your activities. You can have Washer, in the background, clean your files either when you start up, shut down, automatically at a specific time, or you can do it manually whenever you choose. You can also bleach your files, which overwrites each file with random characters a set number of times, rendering the file completely unrecoverable. Overwriting a file 3 times respects the DOD 5220.22-M for sanitizing a file, and doing it 7 times, respects the NASA approved 7 pass erasure method. [wasn't that exciting?]
You can change the directories cleaned, but standard is Windows history docs, windows temp files, Netscape user and cache files, Internet Explorer cache, cookies, and history, and program files. You can clear the recycle bin, the .chk files, the MRU files from Office 97 or 2000, Word, Excel, Access, Photo Editor, and PowerPoint. You can also add custom items to be washed.
There is also a feature, with a large warning that if you are not an advanced user don't use this! [I didn't] that will allow you to add a registry item, remove a registry item, clean your registry don't ask me I don't go near my registry.
The shareware version of Washer is good for 30 days.
I washed my files. They disappeared, but whether or not they disappeared with DOD 5220.22-M or NASA's approval I'm not smart enough to figure out, cause I never knew how to recover deleted files anyway!
