Westfront PC: The Trials of Guilder according to the author is "an
extremely addictive, warped text adventure from the mind of a complete lunatic". A
text adventure is a game where it tells you (in text) what is around you and/or what is
happening and you tell it (in text) what you want to do. The object of the game is to
complete the 20 quests which are posted in on a bulletin board in the village guild (type
read board to see the quests).
Unlike some text adventure games the text commands that the game understands are short and
simple. For example instead of typing "go south" you just type "s".
This game is very challenging and will provide you with hours of fun solving complicated
puzzles, gathering items, killing monsters and so on. This game has 809 rooms to explore
and 86 monsters you can fight, bribe, and steal from.
I am not going to go into how to play the game because the help file is quite explanatory
and most helpful. The requirements for the game are 286 Computer at 8 Mhz or faster, 256KB
of RAM, 620KB of free disk space, and DOS 5.0 or higher and/or Windows. For those of you
who never played a text adventure they are quite fun and I attribute them to my 5th grader
being able to read at a 7th grade level because when these game was the "good
games" I would only read the big words to him and only after he tried sounding it out
the rest he had to read and figure out for himself.
