This little program is a great example of 3D graphics. The author did a
wonderful job (I have tried my hand at 3D and have not had much success.) Scope 4D
basically shows a 3D image on a background adding snow, confetti or stars. The effects are
great. The animation and background image appear to be chosen randomly. The author states
in the Read Me file: "Assuming music is the 4th dimension, which is not physically
correct (smiley face), you can see all 4 Dimensions with Scope 4D."
The program scans your sound card while you are playing a CD or midi (I tried it using the
midis on my home page too) or using your mike, and matches the animation to the beat of
the music. I noticed that the animation was not always in time with the music and the Read
Me file tells you to make adjustments to your sound card which I did NOT do. If I really
thought I would put the program to frequent use, I would have given it a try but as pretty
and unusual as it is, I just didn't think it was something I would use often enough to
fiddle around with the levels on my sound card. You may use your own backgrounds and 3D
images (where do you find more 3D images)? and either run the program in the foreground or
full screen. The higher the screen value, stars, snow, etc., the slower the animation.
If the program encounters any major problems and crashes, a file will be created that you
can send to the author for help. (Wish Microsoft would offer this service.) Scope 4D may
be used free of charge for private use and may be redistributed as long as you include the
executable and Read Me files. You may add more animations and backgrounds. Commercial
users must contact the author. If you are looking for some unusual 3D animations and a
relaxing diversion when you are tired of staring at your monitor, Scope 4D may be just
what you need. The price is right and if you have some extra room on your hard drive, it
might be worth keeping around.
