You may have heard your friends (who know tons more about computers than you do) ranting and raving about various "compression" types. In plain English, they are referring to programs that cram files into a virtual suitcase, making the set of files smaller and in some cases, easier to access. Winzip has (for some time now) been the #1 compression program. But WinRar is stepping up the ladder of success, and deserves to be honored. WinRar introduces a new format of compression: the .rar extension. Perhaps you've seen files like these online. The new format actually crams files better than the ZIP format. Though the interface needs a little work, WinRar is sure to please. Unique features include:

-ability to create RAR files or ZIP files
-ability to repair damaged ZIP/RAR files
-ability to estimate ZIPPING/RARING time

Like Winzip, WinRar lacks the Nag messages that create migranes for users who don't intend to pay $35 just to see their name printed in the 'REGISTERED TO' window.
