Backup Plus is a program for backing up your entire hard drive, folders,
and/or files. This program is an easy way to make backups and keep them up to date. The
tasks included are Track Important Backups and Schedule Timed Backups. Backups can be
scheduled at timed-intervals, such as every hour, 6 hours, 12 hours or every day, 7 days,
15 days, and 30 days. The Favorites lets you organize your favorite backups and quickly
perform backups if you want. The last 5 backups are automatically listed in favorites but
you can remove them and add the ones you want listed but only 5 can be listed. The Wizard
you guide you through making backups. There is also an Registry option that will backup
your control.ini, system.dat, system.ini, user.dat, and win.ini files. Other features
include spanning multiple disks, network drives backups, command line backups, backing up
to CD Recordables
You can customize the backups to do work the way you want. You can choose normal, high,
low or no compression. Other options include only freshen files in existing backups when
backup archive exists, add new found files in existing backups when backup archive exists,
include subfolders, shut down backup plus when command line backup has been performed,
prompt notification for skipped files, prompt for backup archive size preview, always
overwrite existing files when restoring, only overwrite program and system files with
newer version numbers, and prompt for different restore locations.
This is program is pretty great and is easy to use. It does have it's limitations that
needs to be kept in mind when backing up. Since CD Recordables are not considered
"removable devices" you have force the program to attempt a spanned backup on
CD-Rs,CD-RWs, and other devices not recognized as "removable drives". It will
backup network drives but the drives must be mapped or you could end up with a messed up
backup. The maximum backup size is 4 GB so if you are backing up a large hard drive you
will need to be sure not to go over this even when spanning. Besides those limitations
this program is quick and easy to use. I really like being able to start backups using a
link without having to open Backup Plus and I like the scheduled backups. The shareware
version lets you start the program 10 times.
