hird-party booster applications can snap on seamlessly to IE5, as add-on
Explorer Bars, which allow convenient and instant access to your favorite Internet
information or search services. There are currently four Explorer Bars to choose from, as
follows, plus a new IE5 toolbar wallpaper option you can add.
The Alexa bar can be added to the bottom or side of your browser window, which can be
easily minimized anytime, plus an entry goes onto the right-click menu. Alexa offers
useful information about each site you visit -- its size, traffic, contact information,
and more -- and offers you information on links related to your subject.
The Alta Vista search engine add-ons include more than its Explorer Bar --you can choose
from 6 add-on features, including language translation (right-click add-on and/or the
Babel Fish toolbar add-on), Link search, Host search, and the AV Tracker. The AV Tracker
is the Explorer Bar search tool that gives access to search, news, weather reports and
more.
The New York Times Explorer Bar delivers the day's top stories, breaking news updates
every ten minutes, the latest market information and access to stock quotes.
The Bloomberg Explorer Bars offers business users real-time stock quotes and business news
from the Bloomberg web site while you continue to browse the web.
And, you can customize the look of your IE5 toolbar area, by applying the optional
wallpaper option -- this download is available from the same web page as the third-party
options, so I mention it. Hey, the ole original look is fine with me, but whatever...
Mix and match these however you like to browse. Each download package is well under 200K,
although actual sizes vary. Check them out. They make access to these services automatic.
And when activated, these services work in the background, so you'll perceive no
difference in your actual browsing speed. I love the flexibility or being able to add what
I want, and make my browser do more of my work.
